What 25 Years in Fortune 500 Boardrooms Taught Me About Real Estate

By Lubna Forbord · 2026-09-01

I spent 25 years in a Fortune 500 corporate career, leading complex initiatives, negotiating high-stakes decisions and solving highly volatile problems. That chapter taught me to think strategically, act decisively, and never lose sight of the people behind the data.

Three of those lessons carry directly into real estate.

The first is that the analysis has to come before the position. In a boardroom, arriving with a conclusion you have not tested is how you lose the room. In a transaction, it is how you overpay, or leave money on the table.

The second is that risk is identified early or it is absorbed late. Anticipating where a deal can break — financing, inspection, appraisal, timeline, title — is far cheaper than reacting once it has.

The third is that negotiation is not adversarial theater. It is understanding what the other side actually needs, and structuring terms that get your client what they need without giving away leverage.

Real estate is rarely just about a piece of property. It is about what that property makes possible: security, freedom, lifestyle, wealth and legacy. Careers cross borders. Families cross continents. Priorities shift. When the decision that was right for one chapter no longer serves the next, my job is to help you see what is possible — and build the foundation to get you there.
